Keyword Labels

Labels are assigned to keywords to create categories of keywords. The most important use of categories is to establish a list of prioritized keyword groups with the most important category list first. In theory, the first 3 – 5 categories represent the most important keywords in the keyword report.

These category labeles should be used to establish groups of related keywords and should contain between 5 – 15 keywords. Keywords in a category will be sorted by exact match keyword volume and generic high volume keywords should often be in different categories from longer tail lower volume keywords.

Keyword Selection

In addition, keywords representing different levels of a website should be grouped together — for example, a long list of product categories and product detail keywords should divided into smaller keyword categories.

Overall, longer tail low volume keywords and branded keywords should be limited on the keyword report as well as the number of keywords that do not rank in the Top 100 of Google.

Lastly, un-assigned keywords can be added after all website pages have been inventoried and all keywords mapped. These un-assigned keywords should represent significant keyword volume and be used to establish upcoming content development strategies.

Blog Posts

For blogs hosted on websites, it is recommended to have a seperate ranking report for all blog keywords. Initial keyword labels can be categorized by month until enough blog posts and keywords are inventoried to create category based labels.
